Spring Garden DIY 2017!- How to Make a Planted Wreath

Cocktails on the terrace? BBQ in the garden? Maybe a little alfresco dining?

Let me help you get garden ready for your garden parties this spring & early summer.

Where to start?

So no matter how big or small your garden space is, there are always ways to create lovely displays.
Today I'm going to show you how to make a late spring-early summer planted flower wreath that you can mix with candles & place in the centre of your garden table.

This is a great DIY that is quick and simple to do, and can easily be made no matter how much gardening experience you have!

Choose your planter

I found the wicker wreath planter I'm using whilst walking in the beautiful sun, in the countryside at a good old car-boot! Look out for similar styles in shops, markets, online etc...

But what if you can't find one like it?
If you struggle and also maybe want something a little smaller than the one I'm using, then you could use a bundt cake tin! - just carefully (and safely!) drill a couple of holes in the tin and boom... your there!

OK so, before you start planting ensure your container has a plastic liner, if not cut a bin liner up and lay this in the base and halfway up the sides of your chosen piece. Make a few small holes evenly throughout the container, I use scissors... the holes help with drainage, keeping your plants happy, healthy and looking good.

Half-fill your planter with a good compost... now, compost... an ever dull thing to talk about however choosing a good one will make a huge difference to the way your plants perform and look!
I use a good quality compost that has a feed in it, fine bark fiber and is made with a more sustainable white peat. Ask for help in your local garden centre or DIY store on this if you're not sure... however just steer clear of the really cheap bags available, if you want your floral wreath to keep on looking fabulous that is.

DON'T WORRY! you can buy little bags of compost too so you don't have to have a huge bag of heavy compost for this planter DIY :) yey :)

Time to get floral!

This is the really fun bit, choosing your flowers! best way to do this?

Go to a garden centre, grab a takeaway coffee or tea from their cafe and have a nice relaxing stroll through their plant section (plant area). There will be so many pretty plants to look at, be inspired by and choose from. Pick plants that have some flower but also some bud, this will ensure your display will last a lot longer.

As this is a shallow container idea I would suggest using alpine plants, sempervirens or succulent plants, all of which would look amazing!

You could mix up a couple of different types of plants for a cute informal look or just use one type that will create a simple yet classy look.

For this DIY I'm using a plant called Saxifrage with white flowers, it looks super cute with its sweet little star-like white flowers and lovely fresh green foliage that has super texture to look at.

I take them out their pots and place them into the planter, snuggly next to each other.

Then I fill in all the gaps with our very nice compost :)

Clean up your space and put your gorgeous wreath into your chosen spot... mine is going in the middle of our patio table ready to dress for a BBQ we're having at the weekend.

Give it a good water

Now add church candles into the hole/centre of your newly planted fabulous floral wreath!
Use real or LED candles, whichever you prefer from a safety point of view

I love, love, LOVE how this turned out, it looks stunning and is really so simple
Be sure to take a look at the DIY video I made to help you create this wreath!

Just imagine how stunning your garden table is going to look when you have placed this in the middle of it! And when those candles or lit (or switched on!) this will really set a relaxed mood and lovely ambiance for your garden do... cannot wait to put mine into action.

KEEP IT GOING... so yes my lovelies, you can keep this looking fab for many weeks all you need to do is keep it watered... use your little finger to check if it needs watering...
feels damp.... leave it
feels dry... give it a water

Check every couple of days to keep it looking fresh :)
