Floral Pretties for Early-Late Spring
Floral Pretties for Early-Late Spring
My, my! What a superb spring we seem to be having this year! Spring flowering bulbs have looked fantastic in many gardens that I've stumbled upon & early flowering shrubs have really come into their own this year.
I've recently moved into my boyfriend's house (whom is the least bit excited about gardening!) and I was stunned to see how many beautiful spring flowering plants popped up this year... that he didn't even know existed! haha.
So with this, and wondering around my own plant nursery I have picked out my favorite spring time blooms for this year to share with you all.
If you're spring garden needs a little lift and you're not sure where to begin or how to choose nice varieties then keep on reading for some inspiration.
I have also got an idea on how to use these pretty florals in your home, as well as growing them in your garden for spring... keep your eyes on my account as I will be showing you how to use my specially selected below varieties in home decor via a DIY blog post & DIY video coming soon!
So let me now indulge you into my little pretty florals for a fabulous spring-time garden, no matter how big your outdoor space is.
Muscari - Grape Hyacinth
Deep, intense & vibrant blue blooms create candle-like flower spikes, standing proudly above thin, floppy sword-like bright green foliage. Muscari can be used in so many different ways to create so many different styles in your garden. The flowers are like tiny weeny bells that create a conical shaped flower spike, super pretty.
Want a cute colour pop for your patio garden? Plant Muscari in vintage style teacups, dotting around your patio table for a garden talking point.
Maybe contemporary chic is more your vision? Plant Muscari bulbs into black low bowl planters or tall silver zinc containers, using Ivy around the edges to soften & add texture.
What about adding depth and rich spring colour to your more traditional borders or cottage garden style garden? with the shape & style of these flower stems, Muscari make for the ideal cottage garden flowering bulb, ideal for the front or middle of your border.
Anemone blanda - Wood Anemone
Imagine this, carpets of soft, sky blue blooms laying underneath tree canopies & shrubs, drifts of this pretty blue daisy like flower planted in your borders... just dreamy.
This glorious blue floral beauty thrives in shade or partial sunny spots, making it the ideal dull space cheer-er up-er! if you have shady spots in your garden, either from towering buildings, trees or large shrubs plant Anemone blanda for a pop of spring colour.
Shaded patio area, terrace or balcony? why not plant in pots, mixing with Muscari, Primrose and Ivy for a lovely shade friendly, cottage style display.
Primula vulgaris - English Native Primrose
Spring wouldn't be spring (in my opinion) without those lovely delicate buttercream yellow blooms of our Native Primrose gracing our grass verges, woodland areas & gardens. The native English Primrose will come back each year, spreading too if its happy where planted.
During a damp but warm day in spring, primroses will let off a very delicate, woody sweet scent, filling your senses. They can be planted and grown in part shade, full shade and fairly sunny positions in the garden either straight in the ground or plant up in nice containers
Saxifraga Peter Pan
So, I've talked about calming sky blues & buttercream yellows... now its time to pop in a punchy contrast with the deep pink/red blooms from Saxifraga Peter Pan. This lovely little variety has intricate, lace-like mossy green foliage that becomes covered in stunning star-shaped blooms of deep pink-red throughout the spring.
Super cute in a little terracotta pot on a patio or plant alongside succulent plants in a low terracotta bowl. Got a little gap that needs filling in the front of your border? Saxifraga is ideal for this too, a lovely bit of early colour that'll keep on giving throughout the spring.
Saxifraga White Pixie
I feel I need to add a little touch of class & sophistication to our spring-time medley. White Pixie is a super bright white little cutie, adding a classy punch to break up the pinks & blues of my above picks. This bountiful blooming variety really adds a shine to your garden with pretty blooms that sparkle and look like little white pinched stars, just beautiful. Perfect for little patio pots, window boxes, alpine gardens or dressing the front of your garden borders.
I've just created a garden DIY video using Saxifraga White Pixie, check out my Youtube channel to watch!
